The “biscuit” of cups and plates is made with a press, with sophisticated automatic equipment or with a lathe. Coffee pots, jugs, sugar bowls or oval pieces are made by casting. Gypsum molds are used, this material, in fact, absorbs the water of the wet mass. Subsequently, the body of the ceramic contracts and can then be easily extracted from the mold. This process requires both skill and accuracy, as well as specific technical training. Like Porcelain, it undergoes the first firing to become biscuit at 750-800 °C, to then be glazed and subjected to a new firing at 850-1100 °C. The use of lower temperatures allows the majolica to create bright and brilliant colors and glazes.
